  • You will also receive my privacy policy for your peace of mind.
  • I will provide my time/cost estimate and cancellation policy for approval.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED ABOUT OUR PERSONAL SPACE AND CLUTTER

Some clients have significant ties to the things that are hidden in the closet or under the bed. Others have emotional issues that lead back to their childhood. Some clients have so many interests that they cannot narrow them down to a manageable number. And still others have all the intentions of completing the projects that have been in the garage for a year or two.  All of these factors are taken into consideration. I get to know my clients and their specific goals.  I come in with an open mind, a systematic approach, and a sincere desire to support my client.  By asking detailed questions, I try to find out exactly where they need assistance, how they work best, and determine how I can suit their diverse needs.

Some people just don't view things sorted and compartmentalized in their brains. They may not think that way. Or they actually may indeed process that way, but they don't where to start. My clients say,"It is almost as if I am paralyzed and stuck when I walk into the room. I want to do it, but I just see an overwhelming mess and a task that is too daunting. So closing the door is a good enough answer for the time being." That is of course until you are looking for something important: tickets to the Hollywood Bowl, an already wrapped birthday gift, your paycheck, your favorite pair of shoes, the extra set  of house keys for your neighbor, or the name of the new restaurant you wanted to try. Then I proceed from there. The best part is I work at their pace.

Some clients need one-on-one guidance. We sit next to each other as I lead them through certain steps. Some need time to think about a certain itemmor object . Some just need a jump start to fine tune the skills they already have. Others need an objective but sensitive outsider who can help them make decisions about how to handle tougher projects.

A Short Story:

One woman, after thinking about hiring me for several weeks, came to me with her Palm Pilot in hand saying,"Okay. It's either you or therapy! When are  you available?"  A lack of order in her art studio, led to disorganization in other areas of her life. Disorder and clutter affect one's state of mind and the quality of life. She was stressed and overwhelmed, not knowing what to do or where to start. She was mortified to show me her "secret", thinking I would  be judgmental and see her in a bad light. That was the last thing on my mind. There is no room for judgement. I was excited to help her!

IT CAN BE LEARNED:

Even in my third grade classroom, I find great joy in teaching my students to be organized. I show them how to site up their desk, arrange their homework folders, and how to maintain their classwork folders. We discuss the importance of learning these important habits.  It isn't just to be neat but to be clear in your thinking. Instead of looking for a paper that they "put somewhere", it frees up time that they could spend outside. Time management skills are also essential for staying organized, focused, and on task. Learning how to keep a calendar, plan ahead, and keep information in a central location helps kids feel a sense of control.
